Hubby and I always knew that one day, we would love to have a child of our own. Not that Barney and Kelcey weren't enough for us but we wanted "mini me's" running around our home. Who knows, if it works out, maybe we would have a few. So, on the early morning of Monday, August 25th I found out that our lives were about to change forever!
I learned early in the morning that I was going to be a mom. I was shocked and kept starring at the digital yes shouting, "what does this mean, Yes, I'm pregnant or Yes, I'm not pregnant". Apparently the geniuses at EPT really need to make an idiot proof test, this one is by far extremely complicated. After reading the instructions I did conclude that yes, I am going to be a Mommy!
Hubby was on his way to work and I knew that I couldn't just blurt out our wonderful news so I decided to keep this nugget to myself until he arrived home. I suggested going out for dinner that night to our favorite Mexican restaurant (please, everything revolves around food, we even have our "favorite hot dog hut"). In the meantime I had to keep reminding myself not to discuss this with anyone for the next 9-10 hours. This would be extremely hard, I am a talker and need to discuss my thoughts and emotions immediately, whether or not you want to hear them. No problem, I had plenty of work to do and surely this day would fly by. What felt like hours later, 8:01 am finally arrived and I needed to get away from myself. I hit the store and stocked up on more tests, folic acid, decaf soda and coffee. This was going to be a long day!
After deliberating all day I finally decided how I was going to share the news with Hubby. I wrapped a few things in a left over Ralph Lauren box from a previous purchase. No better way to share important news than in a beautiful navy box with Ralph Lauren gold foil along with a Polo Pony in the center (presentation is important), breathtaking! Sidetracking a bit. Hubby finally arrived home and walked right past the package. Typically I would "holla" at Hubby but now that I am with child I need to calm down a bit, not get so excited, watch my emotions (and language). Hubby's immediate reaction "what did you buy now wife". No reason to get into my shopping habits, I calmly told him that I wanted him to open the box before we left. 15 minutes later and Hubby was still reading email, not even paying attention to the box. I finally resorted to my old ways, "Oh for christ's sake Hubby open the box". Eye rolling followed by a huge sigh, he finally opened his gift and learned our wonderful news!!
I have to admit, it was wonderful to see our lives change and to witness his reaction. He was quiet for a few minutes and finally exclaimed, "this is the best day of my life". Hmmmmm, I thought the best day of his life was when he met me or when he married me but I quickly learned, move over wifey, Baby Smith is now the center of our universe. We are very happy to start the next chapter of our lives. We are truly blessed!!
I am happy to announce that our gift is due to arrive on or about May 3, 2009! I am looking forward to all the good (and trying) days ahead. Hopefully you will stop by and check out our journey!!
In case you are wondering, Barney and Kelcey took the news exactly as I expected. Barney just dropped his head and rolled his eyes with that typical "Barney" look of "oh boy, first Kelcey now a baby, I'm moving" and Kelcey just kept looking around the room with that typical lost look "what's a baby". They will be fine!
