Happy Easter 2008

Hoppy Easter. Hope everyone had an Egg-cellent day! Barns and Kelcey waited patiently to celebrate the rising of our Lord Jesus Christ and to see if the Easter Bunny left any treats for them to share. We spent some time opening baskets and trying bunny ears on Kelcey, can't say that she enjoyed that. After full bellies and the beginning of naps, Hubby and I left to spend the day with my parents.

I was in charge of making the traditional "Silence of the Lamb" cake. My earliest Easter memory involves gigantic Easter baskets, white chocolate bunnies, bubbles and my grandmother making a cake from a lamb mold with black jelly beans for eyes and a red bean for the mouth. The anxiety every year wondering if grandma would make the lamb cake, we all knew she would and it would always look the same but it was so exciting to see that white lamb with a coating of coconut (to look like the lambie had hair) sitting upon a layer of grass (coconut dyed green - grandma was creative). So, I took this tradition over. The only difference is I make my lamb cake with red velvet cake. Not that I want to gross every one out thinking that the lamb is bleeding as I cut into it, oh no. I make sure to make the Silence of the Lamb with red velvet cake for two reasons:

1. I think my grandmother would have stepped it up and added something new to this traditional cake.
2 Also to acknowledge my sister-in-law's Jewish heritage and the celebration of Passover. In the story of Moses, God set ten plagues upon the Egyptians to convince Pharaoh to release the Israelites. The tenth plague was the killing of the firstborn sons. However, the Israelites were instructed to mark the doorposts of their homes with the blood of a spring lamb, and upon seeing this, the spirit of the Lord passed over these homes, hence the term "passover" - From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Now you know! My lamb didn't come out as expected, traveling to my mom's house caused some damage to the lamb.

Easter was wonderful and very relaxing. We feasted on some tuna tartare made by me, are you impressed? I am! I love making tuna tartare, it is one of my favorite treats. If you like tuna tartare, here is the recipe.

Mom made some great food and all of us had a good time! Oh, and in case you were wondering, there is nothing wrong with Hubbyin the picture with the Lamb. He thinks it is funny to act like Sloth from Goonies. He knows that the pics will end up on this blog and everyone can laugh at him.
