Hubby's brother and SIL were gracious enough to invite us with them on their summer vacation to Camp Windsor in Rangeley, Maine. Hubby and I packed our friends N, D and his fiance M at midnight on Friday, July 18th into a truck and headed 12 hours North for our summer vacation. The drive was wonderful, I slept about 8 hours, almost like time traveling, and finally arrived at noon on Saturday.
Camp Windsor is located on Lake Rangeley, talk about a breathtaking view! The lake house has been in my SIL's family approximately 80 years, I can see why the Smith's head North every year. Besides the crew I mentioned we also spent the week with a few other friends It was a great mix of people that lead to a great time had by all. Everyone did their own thing during the day; fishing, kayaking, being a pain in the arse, hiking, playing games, being a pain in the arse, reading by the fire (yes, it was that chilly) and just relaxing on the porch.
We did take a few day trips into town for some shopping and dining. We also took a trip to Smalls Fall's, yep, you guessed it, to see waterfalls. The scenery was beautiful where ever you turned. We went kayaking, my new favorite activity and took the boat out for an afternoon of some local sightseeing. Talk about a relaxing week!
At night we all gathered around the long wooden table for unforgettable meals. Everyone brought their culinary experience and favorite dishes for the nightly feast of lobster, tuna tartare, clams, shrimp and themed nights of "Chinese, Mexican and Italian". After dinner drinks were had by all, well, except for Terry who is with child. Who am I kidding, some of us had after breakfast and after lunch drinks too. We usually spent most nights hanging out, talking and just takin' it easy!
Top lines from the week:
6. "Hubby you're like an NARC counting everyone's drinks all week. You're like Donnie Brasco and I don't mean Johnny Depp, I mean old Al Pacino" - D commenting on the fact that Hubby knew at any given moment how much alcohol was consummed by every individual.
5. "Pssst, Pssssst, D, D, make me another one" - N after his first time tyring a Chocolate Martini (and after several red bull and vodkas)
4. "Everyone get in your Kayak" - D remembering Celine Dion's reply when asked how the Hurricane Katrina victims should get back to their homes. As D remembers during the interview Celine suggested that everyone gets into their kayaks and take an ax to their attaic's to rescue family members, pets and valuables.
3. "We're gonna paint you Mexican and make you run in front of the Border Patrol" - Hubby's suggestions for activities with N
2. "That shower was great but I felt like John Connor from the Terminator crouched in ball" - Hubby describing his 1st shower experience in Maine.
And the Number 1 Line of the week:
1. MAN TOWN RULES!!!!!!!!! - Durgin 2008
Ah, Man Town! The guys decided to leave Camp Windsor two nights before we departed Maine and take the Express Train to Man Town. Man Town is located steps away from the main house and yes, you guessed it, only Men are allowed to enter. The house is basically a guest house with an open room to play ping pong. After a quick game of ping pong, Hubby ran down to the house to gather all the beer for a game of old fashioned beer pong. He quickly instructed the women that we were not allowed to come up to the house under any circumstances. After a few hours, a rain storm, D emerged and stood under the light screaming "MAN TOWN". And so it was born. Man Town, population - 6. I wasn't there to witness anything but I heard that there was some game playing, D crushing beer cans and throwing them across the room screaming "MAN TOWN" and I can only assume manly activities and discussions. After many hours, many cans of beer, the guys finally left Man Town behind. My brother in law and his friend won the beer pong tournament, the rest of the kids stumbled down the hill and retired to bed for the night.
Thanks again to the Smiths for including us in your summer vacation. We all had a great time and can't wait to do it again!!
